Summer is here and that means it's time for the annual Tour de France bicycle race. It's also time for Tour de Fleece when fiber artists all over the world will be spinning their wheels…Spinning Wheels that is!
This international spinning event takes place June 29 to July 21. While the bicyclists are struggling up mountains, spinners will be working on individual challenges as they master new skills.
Local spinners from the Space Coast Weavers & Fiber Artist have joined the Knit & Stitch official team. They will meet on Saturday June 29 noon to 4 pm and Wednesdays, July 3, 10, 17, 11 am to 1 pm at the Knit & Stitch studio, 15 Stone Street in Cocoa Village..The shop is Brevard’s best source for fiber art supplies and classes.
The public is invited to stop by and watch as spinners use their wheels to transform sheep fleece into beautiful yarn. Call spinner Jeanie McCormack at 321-266-1610 for more information on the Tour! and the Weaving Guild or check out the Knit & Stitch event page.
Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go-to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts. Meetings are free and open to the public. Held at 10 am at the Merritt Island Public Library on the 4th Saturday of each month
