Event Details
The Studios of Cocoa Beach announces their featured artist for the month of February: Gladys Seaward of Cocoa Beach. Gladys has been a fiber artist since the 70s. She enjoys working with natural objects combining hand weaving with various glass beads, often creating beaded cabochons encircling gemstones.. Her free form sculptural bead woven jewelry uses tiny Japanese glass beads combined with semiprecious stones, fossils, sea glass, jasper, agate and various semiprecious chips.
Gladys is inspired by her artist mother who was a Brevard County abstract painter. Gladys also found that the opportunity to watch the space program develop and make history has influenced her creative process. Gladys is also a member of the Potomac Fiber Arts Gallery at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA and her work can be viewed on their website as well as the Studios of Cocoa Beach website.
One of Gladys’ Necklaces will be the prize in the Studios’ monthly giveaway. To enter this free drawing, visit the Studios any day in February.
Gladys’ work can be seen daily at the Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach. The non-profit gallery features the work of 30 local artists and offers a full schedule of workshops in a variety of techniques for both adults and children. The Studios is open Monday and Tuesday 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information about exhibits, artists and workshop schedules, call the Studios at 321-613-3480 or visit www.studiosofcocoabeach.org.
