Description

Geography significantly defines the Central Area. The Indian River divides central Brevard County into two regions with topographical distinctions influencing park designs. The western region, called the Mainland Service Sector, is bounded by the Indian River Lagoon and extends west to the St. Johns River. Wetlands, estuary, and beaches are the defining topographic features if the Merritt Island Service Sector - limiting development of the land based facilities, while inviting water based activities. With the Indian River as the western boundary and the Atlantic Ocean on the east, numerous public boat ramps, fishing sites, beach access sites and three beach parks are appreciated by fisherman, and water sport enthusiasts.
