Event Details
The Space Coast Weavers & Fiber Artists will meet on Saturday, June 25 at 10:00 am at the Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N. Courtenay Parkway. Barbara Pietruck of Rockledge will present a program on “Weaving in the Round”. Circular looms have become popular and are less expensive than other types of looms. Barbara will cover the tips and tricks of weaving on a CD.
Barbara has been involved in textile arts for most of her life and has focused on weaving for the past 20 yrs. She presently teaches a variety of weaving, knitting and crochet classes at Knit & Stitch Boutique in Cocoa.
Barbara will provide unused CD's for all who want to participate. Be sure to bring your scissors, a blunt tip tapestry needle, and any scrap yarn you would like to use. Thinner yarns are recommended for the center of the circle, but thicker yarns are great as you weave to the outer edge of your circle.
You will learn how to add patterning to your weaving. The finished CD can be hung as a decoration or used as a coaster. We will also discuss tips for using these techniques for weaving with children of all ages.
SCW&F meetings are free and open to the public.. Since 1983 SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go to guild for fiber arts: spinning, weaving, basketry, rug hooking, and more. The guild helps fiber artists, beginning or advanced, learn through workshops and the informal exchange of ideas. They also work to educate the public about the fiber arts. For more information call Jeanie McCormack at 321-266-1610…
