Fourth part of this In-Service Seminar will be a sharing of experiences by Brevard County golf course superintendents and parks & recreation managers with and for General Managers and Turfgrass Supervisors.
The speaker for today’s SCG&TA In-Service Seminar is Mr. Todd Lowe, an agronomist with the United States Golf Association (USGA) Green Section’s Southeast (United States) Region. During the first hour, Mr. Lowe will be presenting an update on the Status of Today’s Golf and Sports Turfgrass. Perhaps no other factor is more important for enjoying a round of golf or participating in a sports activity than the condition of the turfgrass. Today's golfers and sports participants have come to expect playing conditions that only a few years ago would have seemed impossible. Immaculate fairways and pristine sports fields are the result of many years of dedicated research and care. Learn about the appropriate use science to benefit golf and athletic endeavors in the areas of turfgrass management, sustainable development, and environmental protection.
Mr. Lowe will then expand the improvement of properly improving the condition of the turfgrass through the effective use Best Management Practices (BMPs). He will review Florida’s comprehensive manual of BMPs for golf courses and sports turf. BMPs are designed to preserve and protect Florida's environmental resources. Florida’s BMPs were developed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the University of Florida for golf course superintendents, parks & recreation turf managers, and other environmental groups. Mr. Lowe will review this comprehensive manual and provide instruction on the proper application of appropriate BMP cu
