Brevard County Emergency Management, in cooperation with the National Weather Service in Melbourne, will host a Basic SKYWARN Spotter Training Class on Saturday, March 17 from 12 to 2PM.
SKYWARN Training is geared towards anyone with an interest in public safety and communications during extreme weather events. SKYWARN is a program developed and taught by National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists and consists of trained weather spotters who report severe and hazardous weather to help in the weather warning process. SKYWARN Spotter reports provide vital "ground truth" to the NWS.
These are FREE courses that run approximately two hours each. You may attend one or both classes, however in order to take the Advanced class, you must have previously taken a Basic class taught by NWS Melbourne.
