Join us for our February Brown Bag Lunch, with guest speaker Jake Zehnder from Brevard Zoo's Restoration Team. He will provide insight on the projects that the Brevard Zoo is working on to involve the community in restoration of the Indian River Lagoon. These programs are a response to the problems facing the Indian River Lagoon that have led Brevard County to pass The Save Our Lagoon tax referendum in 2016 and will help to overcome the hurdles that we, as a community, will face in restoring natural resilience to the Lagoon.

Raised in Southwest Florida, Jake cut his teeth on the fight to save Babcock Ranch and Lake Okeechobee discharges. He attended the Florida Institute of Technology to study Marine Biology and Sustainability. This is where he met his wife, Kate Zehnder, the Volunteer and Membership Coordinator at MRC. After graduation he moved to San Diego, CA to work on Environmental Policy and Community Organizing, including working on the California statewide plastic bag ban and San Diego's commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2035. He was tempted back to the Melbourne area by the growth and success of Brevard Zoo's Restore Our Shores program and the widespread support from the community for Lagoon restoration.

This event is free and open to the public, all attendees have to do is register online. If interested and able, we ask participants to donate $5 toward our guest speaker series. This educational series is a long-standing and cherished program of the MRC that is supported by volunteers and the community's charitable giving. All donations are tax-deductible. Attendees are encouraged and welcome to bring and enjoy their lunch during the seminar! For more information on the Marine Resources Council, please visit www.SaveTheIRl.org.
